I am Beka Virtue, founder of Bia Production. I started in independent filmmaking and never really stopped working that way: on set, behind the camera, close to the people on screen. Bia Production is based in New York.
I finished a Fine Arts degree and started working in production in 2004. Two decades and a few hundred videos later, the part that holds my attention is the same one that did at the start: what a person is actually trying to say, and whether the camera caught it.
The work has taken me through businesses, healthcare organizations, entrepreneurs, nonprofits, artists, and larger brands. Different rooms and different stakes, but the problem rarely changes. Someone has something worth saying and a narrow window to say it well.
Independent filmmaking is where I learned to solve that, and it is still the foundation. It teaches you to find the story in what is actually in front of you, not the one written on the call sheet.
Story first
Before the shot list, the question is what someone watching needs to understand, or feel. The setups follow from the answer.
Direct collaboration
You work with me, not with a layer of account management. The person planning the shoot is the person on set, and the person who hands over the finished work.
Right-sized production
The crew matches the project. Some work needs one camera and a quiet room. Some needs several and a schedule. Neither is the default.
